On 01-03 2012, after an investigation into a burglary to a residence that occurred on 12-15-2011, three juveniles were taken into custody and charged with burglary 3rd degree, a Class C felony, and criminal mischief 4th degree, a serious misdemeanor. All three subjects are from Le Mars: Nicholas Madsen, age 16, Jacob Kennett, age 16, and Saber Barber, age 16. All three were transported to the YES Center in Cherokee.
On 01-04-2012 around 0345 hours, Brooke Renee Kelley, age 20 of Le Mars, was arrested for domestic assault. She was jailed.
On 01-04-2012 at 1425 hours, Kody Waterman was observed operating a motor vehicle. Waterman was known to have a barred license in Iowa. His vehicle was stopped and Waterman, age 24 of Akron, was arrested for driving while barred, no proof of insurance and failure to have an ignition interlock device as required. He was jailed.
On 01-04-2012 around 1800 hours, Officers were called to #1 Maple for a subject refusing to leave. Edward Neville, age 47 of Le Mars, was located at the residence. He was arrested and transported to the Plymouth County Jail on a Plymouth County warrant for domestic abuse. He was held.
On 01-04-2012, Dave Ladenthin, 45 4th Ave SW, reported that five times in the last three weeks, someone had cut his Christmas lights and also threw a small rock at his garage cracking a window.
On Wednesday, 01-04-2012 around 1210 hours, the Le Mars Police Department received a report of an accident that occurred in the Le Mars Ford dealership parking lot. Amanda Mae Janssen, age 29 of Le Mars, had pulled in to the parking lot in a 1998 Honda CRV and stopped as she noticed another vehicle backing. Ryan Edward Petzoldt, age 30 of Le Mars, was backing in the lot in a 2002 Ford pickup and failed to see Janssen’s vehicle behind him. As a result, the rear of Petzoldt’s vehicle struck the front end of Janssen’s vehicle. There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.
On Thursday, 01-05-2012 around 1500 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred at the intersection of Plymouth St and 1st Ave NW. Lori Jo Looyenga, age 46 of Le Mars, was westbound on Plymouth St in a 2008 Ford Fusion. Jonathan Nicholas Ruden, age 20 of Le Mars, was also westbound on Plymouth St and behind Looyenga’s vehicle on a 2001 Suzuki motorcycle. As both vehicles were approaching the intersection with 1st Ave, each driver had heard sirens. When Looyenga saw fire trucks approaching, she stopped suddenly, which resulted in Ruden’s motorcycle striking the rear of her vehicle. There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.
On Thursday, 01-05-2012 around 0942 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred at the intersection of 18th St and Lincoln St SW. Kenneth Christopher Keane, age 35 of Sioux City, was traveling east on 18th St in a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am. Alex Richard Westergard, age 21 of Le Mars, was stopped at the stop sign on Lincoln St facing south in a 1998 Buick Park Avenue. As Westergard’s vehicle proceeded from the stop sign, he failed to see Keane’s vehicle and, as a result, the front of Westergard’s vehicle struck the left front side of Keane’s vehicle. There were no injuries and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Keane’s vehicle sustained approximately $2000 damage. Westergard’s vehicle sustained approximately $1500 damage. Westergard was cited for Fail to Yield Right of Way from Stop Sign.
On 01-06-2012 around 1210 hours, a Le Mars Officer stopped a vehicle because the driver was not wearing her seatbelt. The driver, Jennifer Brewer, age 36 of Le Mars, was found to have a suspended driver’s license in the State of Iowa. She also did not have insurance on the vehicle. She was cited into court.
On Monday, 01-09-2012 around 0827 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred in the alleyway of Rieken Trailer Court. Jamie Mejia Esquivel, age 42 of South Sioux City, NE, was northbound in the alley in a 2011 Ford F350. April Elizabeth Kiewel, age 35 of Le Mars, reported that the sun was obscuring her vision as she was eastbound through the parking lot in a 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass and therefore failed to see Esquivel’s vehicle in the alley. As a result, the front right corner of Kiewel’s vehicle struck the left front bumper of Esquivel’s vehicle. There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.
On Tuesday, 01-10-2012 around 2102 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred on 2nd Ave NW. Katie Ann Tague, age 33 of Le Mars, was backing out of a driveway in a 2007 Chevy Equinox when she failed to see the 2000 Buick Park Avenue, which was properly parked and is owned by James Henry Erwin, age 80 of Spencer. As a result, the rear of Tague’s vehicle struck the driver’s side door of Erwin’s vehicle. There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.
On Wednesday, 01-11-2012 around 0645 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred on Hwy 75 just north of C-38. Derek Dean Krause, age 27 of Sioux City, was southbound on Hwy 75 in a 2008 Chrysler Sebring, when he swerved to avoid a deer that was on the roadway. In doing so, the deer struck the left rear quarter panel of Krause’s vehicle causing damage. There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.
On 01-12-2012 around 1100 hours, Dustin Lee Suppi, age 25 of Le Mars, was arrested and jailed on a Plymouth County warrant and he was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia for items found at his residence.
On 01-15-2012 around 0110 hours, Le Mars Officers received a report of a vehicle that had struck two other vehicles in the parking lot at 333 Memorial Dr. After an investigation into the incident, Lucas Abler was charged with operating without owner's consent and with two counts of criminal mischief in the 4th degree. The estimated damage to the three vehicles involved was $1400.00. Abler was charged in juvenile court and transported to the YES Center in Cherokee.
On Sunday, 01-15-2012 around 0110 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred in the parking lot of Memorial Dr apartments. Lucas Todd Abler, age 17 of Le Mars, was backing out of a parking stall in a 2001 Buick LeSabre, which is registered to Shanice Marie Schroeder, age 18 of Le Mars. In doing so, Schroeder’s vehicle struck two other vehicles, which were properly parked, a 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix, which is owned by Trista Marie Olson of Le Mars, and a 1997 Ford Taurus, which is owned by Michelle Lynne Winter of Le Mars. There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500. Abler was arrested for Operating Without Consent and two counts of Criminal Mischief 4th.
On Friday, 01-20-2012 around 1005 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred in the Truck Stop parking lot. Elizabeth Ann Chagolla, age 23 of Le Mars, was waiting for traffic to clear in the Truck Stop parking lot so she could proceed onto Business Hwy 75 in a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am. Kent Hanstein, age 54 of Le Mars, was pushing snow in the parking lot in a 1997 Chevy Suburban. As Hanstein was backing his vehicle, he failed to see Chagolla’s vehicle, and, as a result, the rear of Hanstein’s vehicle struck the front bumper and driver’s side headlight of Chagolla’s vehicle. There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.
On Friday, 01-20-2012 around 1550 hours, the Le Mars Police Department received a report of a hit and run accident that occurred in the 200 blk of 8th St SW. Daryl Friedenbach, age 46 of Le Mars, reported that his 1999 Ford pickup was properly parked in the 200 blk of 8th St SW facing westbound when an unknown vehicle struck the driver’s side mirror causing damage. There are no suspects and damage was less than $1500.
On 01-20-2012 around 2350 hours, Officers were called to the Baymont Inn regarding underage drinking taking place in one of the rooms. Kayla Viselli, age 18 of Carter Lake, and Michael Walter, age 18 of Council Bluffs, were found in possession of alcohol and both had been consuming. They were cited into court and released.
On Saturday, 01-21-2012 around 0200 hours, the Le Mars Police Department received a report of a hit and run accident that occurred in the 100 blk of 4th Ave NW. Matthew David Wilson, age 28 of Le Mars, reported that his 1996 Ford Explorer was properly parked facing northbound when an unknown vehicle backed out of the driveway across from his vehicle and struck the driver’s side door. Damage was less than $1500.
On 01-21-2012 around 0625 hours, Eric Dahm, age 32 of Le Mars, was arrested and jailed on a charge of domestic assault after a complaint was investigated and it was determined he had assaulted his girlfriend.
On 01-22-2012 around 1550 hours, Russell Lang, age 43 of Merrill, was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear. He was held at the Plymouth County Jail.
On 01-22-2012 around 0135 hours, a vehicle was stopped for operating with no plates. As a result, the driver, Christopher Glenn, age 39 of Le Mars, was found to be intoxicated. He was arrested and jailed on a charge of OWI 1st offense.
On 01-22-2012 around 1645 hours, Eric Lauters, age 29 of Le Mars, was arrested and jailed on charges of sexual abuse 3rd degree, a Class C felony, and aggravated domestic assault. The charges were the result of a domestic assault complaint investigated by officers of an incident that occurred earlier that day.
On 01-23-2012 around 1500 hours, Le Mars Officers were made aware of warrants for Nicholas Shipley, age 19 of Le Mars, and Tyler Lariviere, also 19 years of age from Le Mars. Both subjects were located at 314 ½ Central Ave NE and taken into custody. The warrants were for burglary to a vehicle.
On Wednesday, 01-25-2012 around 1638 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred at the intersection of Hawkeye Ave and Blue Diamond Dr SW. Orval Lester Siebens, age 82 of Le Mars, was northbound on Hawkeye Ave in a 2002 Ford Taurus. Gregory Charles Harder, age 26 of Pierson, was southbound on Hawkeye Ave in a 1996 Ford pickup. As Siebens slowed to make a left turn onto Blue Diamond Dr, he failed to yield to Harder’s vehicle. As a result, the front of Harder’s vehicle struck the right side of Siebens’ vehicle. Siebens reported possible injuries and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Each vehicle sustained approximately $5000 damage. Siebens was cited for Fail to Yield Upon Left Turn.
On Wednesday, 01-25-2012 around 1200 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Mary Ellen Fedders, age 64 of Le Mars, was backing out of a parking stall in a 2004 Chrysler Town & Country mini-van. Felipe De Jesus Prieto, age 24 of Le Mars, was eastbound through the parking lot in a 1981 Buick LeSabre. Fedders failed to see Prieto’s vehicle, and, as a result, backed in to Prieto’s vehicle. There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.
On 01-25-2012 around 0116 hours, Offices were called to 520 7th Ave SW Lot J for a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers found several items of drug paraphernalia and also alcohol. As a result, Michael Tutt, age 19 of Le Mars, was charged with possession of paraphernalia and possession of alcohol underage. Matthew Jandreau, age 19 of Le Mars, was charged with possession of paraphernalia and possession of alcohol underage and with interference. Mandy Staab, age 22 of Le Mars, was charged with contributing alcohol to subjects under the age of 21 and possession of drug paraphernalia. All three subjects were jailed.
On 01-27-2012 around 2300 hours, a traffic stopped was made and it was determined that one of the passengers, Patrick Rehder, age 38 of Whiting, supplied alcohol to the other occupants of the vehicle. Two of the occupants were juvenile males from Whiting, Iowa. A third person in the vehicle was cited for open container. While dealing with officers, Rehder gave officers a false name and identification. Once his real name was determined, he was also charged with providing false information.
On Friday, 01-27-2012 around 0800 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred near the intersection of 18th St SW and Business Hwy 75. Richard Leonard Daly, age 33 of Appleton, MN, was stopped at the stop sign on 18th St SW facing westbound at the intersection with Business Hwy 75 in a 2007 Freightliner tractor/trailer. Allison Margaret Perera, age 15 of Merrill, was northbound on Business Hwy 75 in a 2009 Cadillac DTS and attempting to make a right turn onto 18th St SW. Perera was unable to complete the turn due to the weather and roadway surface conditions at the time and lost control of the vehicle. As a result, the front of Perera’s vehicle struck the left side of Daly’s vehicle. There were no injuries and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Daly’s vehicle did not sustain any damage. Perera’s vehicle sustained approximately $5000 damage.
On Saturday, 01-28-2012 around 1445 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred in the Hy Vee parking lot. Steven Eric Panzer, age 40 of Merrill, was northbound in the Hy Vee parking lot on the east end in a 2006 Chevy Silverado when he became distracted by a subject in his vehicle. As a result, the front driver’s side fender of Panzer’s vehicle struck a cement pole base in the parking lot. There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.
On 01-28-2012 around 0220 hours, Aaron Jacobson, age 31 of Le Mars, was stopped for operating a vehicle without current registration. As a result, he was found to be under the influence of a drug other than alcohol. He was take to the Plymouth County Jail and charged with OWI drugged 1st offense.
On 01-29-2012 around 0110 hours, Le Mars Officers received information that Jacob Sitzmann, age 21 of Le Mars, was at Dinger’s Bar and that there were two Plymouth County warrants for his arrest. He was located and taken into custody and jailed on the warrants. Bond on each was $5000.00.
On Sunday, 01-29-2012 around 1300 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred in the 400 blk of Plymouth St East. Darwin Thomas Smith, age 61 of Le Mars, was westbound on Plymouth St in a 2004 Chevy Silverado. Ashley Nicole Sanow, age 25 of Le Mars, was eastbound on Plymouth St in a 2008 Kia Spectra. As Sanow’s vehicle proceeded to make a left turn onto 4th Ave, Sanow failed to yield to Smith’s vehicle. As a result, the front of Sanow’s vehicle struck the front of Smith’s vehicle. Smith reported possible injuries and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Smith’s vehicle sustained approximately $2000 damage. Sanow’s vehicle sustained approximately $3000 damage. Sanow was cited for Failure to Yield Upon Left Turn.
On Monday, 01-30-2012 around 0330 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred in the Le Mars Truck Stop parking lot. Cheryl Kay Ball, age 58 of Sioux City, was attempting to exit the parking lot by traveling to the east in a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe intending to exit onto the 300 blk of Business Hwy 75. Ball’s vehicle traveled too close to the west end of the far south gas pump and struck a protective post set into the cement. There were no injuries and the driver was wearing her seatbelt. Ball’s vehicle sustained approximately $2000 damage. The protective guard post, which is owned by the Le Mars Truck Stop, sustained approximately $25 damage.
On Monday, 01-30-2012 around 1325 hours, the Le Mars Police Department received a report of an accident that occurred in the Hardees drive thru. Jeremy Barger Hebert, age 34 of Westfield, was going through the drive thru at Hardees in a Chevy pickup pulling a trailer when the middle portion of the trailer struck the bottom right side of the drive thru order sign causing damage. Damage was less than $1500.
On 01-30-2012, Charles Beck, age 70 of Hinton, was cited into court after Le Mars Police investigated the theft of a refrigerator taken from the front porch of a trailer home in Armel Acres. Assistance was provided by the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office. He was charged with theft 5th.
On 01-30-2012 around 1920 hours, Le Mars Officers were called to the Wal-Mart store for a shoplifter. Josh Moreno, age 16 of Le Mars, was cited into juvenile court for shoplifting 5th degree and released to his guardian.
On 01-31-12 around 1850 hours, Officers were at 3 Birch on an unrelated manner. One of the subjects, Cody Pratt, age 19 of Remsen, was found to be in possession of marijuana. He was placed under arrest and jailed on a charge of possession of marijuana, a serious misdemeanor.
On Tuesday, 01-31-2012 around 1300 hours, the Le Mars Police Department responded to an accident that occurred in the Le Mars Ford parking lot. Christopher Paul Blatchford, age 27 of Sioux City, had his 2003 Peterbilt straight truck, which is owned by Interstate Batteries, properly parked in the parking lot. A 2006 Mercury Montego, which is owned by Glen Udell, was properly parked to the right of Blatchford’s vehicle. As Blatchford was backing out of his parking stall, he turned too early and, as a result, the right front of Blatchford’s vehicle struck the left side of Udell’s vehicle. There were no injuries and damage was less than $1500.

On February 1, 2012 around 1200 hours, Officers were called to the Fareway parking lot for an altercation. Mark Lee, age 51 of Sioux City, had attempted to shoplift two bottles of whiskey from Fareway and was confronted by management. Mark Lee was charged with burglary 2nd and two counts of possession of stolen property for items found in his van that had been stolen from other Le Mars businesses. He was transported to the Plymouth County Jail and held. Jeremiah Jauer, age 33 of Hinton, was cited into court for harassment reference an incident that occurred in Le mars on January 29, 2012.
On 02-02-2012 around 0120 hours, Jeffrey VanMaanen, age 31 of Sioux City, was arrested and jailed for providing false information to law enforcement in order to avoid a valid warrant.
On 02-05-2012 around 2200 hours, Edward Love, AKA/J.R., age 31 of Le Mars, was taken into custody reference a reported home invasion on 02-05-2012 around 0232 hours. Upon officers’ arrival at the residence of 155 18th St SE, Love fled. He was located and jailed on charges of domestic assault, aggravated misdemeanor, burglary, Class C felony, criminal mischief, aggravated misdemeanor, assault while participating in a felony, Class D felony, and animal abuse, aggravated misdemeanor, for a small dog that was injured by Love’s forced entry into the residence.
On 02-05-2012 around 0200 hours, Travis Wollman, age 23 of Le Mars, was booked into the Plymouth County Jail on a charge of domestic assault after officers investigated an incident that occurred at 331 9th Ave SW. The Le Mars Agri Center reported on February 3, 2012 at 0750 hours, that someone entered their business at 224 2nd Ave NW over night. The door was forced open. Once inside, the perpetrator(s) removed an undetermined amount of cash. Damage to the door was estimated at $100.00.
